NUTRIA

NEW PROCESS FOR THE TREATMENT OF wasteWATER FROM THE AGRI-FOOD INDUSTRY

The NUTRIA project (New process for the treatment of wastewater from the Agri-food industry) was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg VA Spain-France-Andorra program (POCTEFA 2014-2020) created by the European Union. The objective of the project is to respond to the problem of small wineries and companies in the agri-food sector, which, located in rural areas, cannot channel their wastewater to treatment plants. It has become essential to develop simple, affordable, efficient and clean water purification technology to support these structures.

The 4 partners; La Rioja University, the company Avanzare, the French Institute of Vine and Wine and the Association Ecocene, have set themselves a challenge: to develop nanoparticles capable of degrading organic matter by the action of the  sun  (nanoparticles are easily removed from the water after treatment), and to test this technology in real conditions and promote it to professionals and companies in the sector.
